East Suffolk Section

Section Notes February 2018

The end of the year and the festivities all done and enjoyed! The Glow worm Supper, an annual fixture we look forward to, rounded off the successful evening runs programme at the end of November when we enjoyed a really good meal at the Douglas Bader. Then at the December party night, Richard set some tough quiz questions, from the motorcycling to more general ones, with the joint Quiz Cup winners being Peter and Storm. The generous buffet provided by the landlord and the raffle concluded the evening. Lest it seem we are totally a fair-weather eating section, we do also try to get out on the roads. Some members usually enjoy riding over to Boxford in December to watch the Eastern Fourstroke Association pre-65 trial, taking the chance to get a last bracing run before Christmas. This year though, the trial was abandoned on the day after heavy overnight rain. Then, our better hopes for the post-Christmas Cold Turkey Run were similarly dashed by horizontal sleet, rain and flooded roads. However, t2he Boxford event was re-arranged for February 25th, and a ride over to watch was on a lovely bright day, in contrast to the December date
At the AGM in January, Pete, the money man, reported satisfactory finances and announced the subs will be pegged at £5 for another year. The members were so thrilled they immediately re-elected him and John, the secretary without delay. However, there were no nominations for the position of Chairman, but the position will be filled as soon as possible. This year, Albert has stepped aside after holding the post for twenty years and was both surprised and delighted to be presented with an engraved tankard in recognition of this. In his thanks, he said that the current size and success of the section is nothing short of amazing. “When six of us met and decided to form the section, I never envisaged that membership might grow to any more than a dozen.” Since he could not be present, the presentation to Richard marking his retirement after many years of committee duties was made in February. The awards of the Quiz Cup and the Bits-in-the-bag Trophy were both collected by Pete Ranson, the Chairman’s Cup went to Christine Dykes and Member of the Year was Andy Poulson.
May your wheels turn smoothly in 2018–we look forward to seeing you out on the road. Further Section news, as it happens, on our website.
