AJS & Matchless Owners Club

East Suffolk Section

Section Notes 3rd September 2017

3rd Sept 2017

We still have no information from the Waldringfield Golf club about a possible return there as a regular meeting place and so, last month we met again in the splendid Tudor magnificence of Seckford Hall. However, their large spacious lounge isn’t the most convenient to hold a meeting when there is business to deal with and the drinks are as five-star as the hotel, so we have been looking at local alternatives, so from September we’re planning to have our meetings at a local pub, the Douglas Bader in Martlesham.
For the August meeting, there was a good–sized gathering, despite the wet and windy weather, to welcome new member, Colin, who has just bought an AJS 350 from Kettering , and was soon chatting away as he found that he already knows several of our members,
The review of recent events covered two evening runs. The first was early in July, going straight down to Manningtree railway station buffet, led by Jim Lomax. It’s an annual favourite in the calendar, where we meet up with our neighbours from North Essex. The following week, little Peter led the way to finish in Earl Soham at the Victoria, where the successful Earl Soham brewery started up in the outbuildings some years ago and we sat outside in the garden enjoying the ale until the dusk fell.
The principal event of the past month has been the annual section barbecue, hosted by Christine and Mick in their lovely garden. Well-attended as always, it briefly looked threatened when there was a heavy downpour dead on three o’clock, It was, though, only brief and was followed by cloudless sunshine for the rest of the afternoon. A contingent was finalising plans to go off to the Jampot Rally at Stow-on-the-Wold, with John, Dave and Andy riding, whilst Maurice was doing the heavy-lifting, acting as sherpa to carry the marquee and camping-gear in his pick-up along with his bike.
