AJS & Matchless Owners Club

East Suffolk Section

Section Notes 15 December 2011

15th Dec 2011

Each year during December, a ride goes over to watch the classic trial that the Anglia Classic Club runs in a spinney at Boxford. This year, it was not too cold and the conditions were good though a bit dry and crumbly with leaf-mould. There was a good turnout of competitors though not many AMC fourstrokes were involved, but Trevor Baker on his bored-out 410 cc Matchless looked good and won his section.
At the monthly club meeting at Hasketon the following evening, it was party time, beginning with the quiz, set this year by Peter Ranson. It was quite a test of knowledge of the marque and motorcycles in general and as usual, the hilarious marking stage was beset with calls for approval of barely-acceptable answers. Pete stood firm, though and in the end Albert emerged as the one with the fewest wrong answers to win the Quiz Cup! He thanked Pete for setting the questions. Later, after the generous buffet, Albert in turn awarded the cup for Clubman of the Year to Mick Dykes, whom the members had selected for his willing assistance to solve members’ problems. He then went on to present the Chairman’s Cup jointly to Celia and Chris, who had between them taken nearly £1000 in raffle-ticket and membership sales for the Club in the day at the Copdock show.  Finally, to cheers all round, a shield specially made for him by Paul and inscribed The Need for Speed award went to Springheel Jack W, our oldest tearaway. After his recent exploits, however, he is now reported to be running in carefully.  The raffle concluded the evening.
The last event of the year, just after Christmas, will be the Cold Turkey Run on December 27th, leaving Spencer’s at 11 and ending promptly at noon at the Turk’s Head. Let’s hope the weather isn’t too extreme. We’ve put in a special request for a big fire back at the pub.

The next clubnight in January will be the Section’s AGM, with an opportunity to vote for the committee, review happenings of the past year and plan next year’s events.
A Happy New Year to all. We look forward to meeting you out there on the road in 2012.
