The Turk’s Head Bike Show 2011

IMGP0194-1 Here is Paul (Jim) Manning – standing on the left – receiving The Best in Show Cup for his magnificent 1957 G11 which beat stiff opposition to head the concours at the show on Sunday the  26th June 2011.  Albert, section chairman, is here presenting the cup to a radiant Jim, who was genuinely surprised, in fact almost embarrassed!  Albert was helped by fellow judge Colin Taverner to select the best eight bikes for “Highly Commended” rosettes, from which this G11 emerged the winner.  Some 30+ bikes were on display in the pub’s garden to make a fine village bike show.

Congratulations must go to all who supported the show by displaying their bikes; by providing raffle prizes and by helping with the preparation and management of the event, which was the culmination of a camping weekend starting on the previous Friday.

Twelve hardy section members, supported by six Fenrunners, camped over the weekend in the extensive grounds of The Turk’s Head.  Forced to endure basic washing facilities (except those in camper vans!) these poor souls suffered the “strain” of good food and drink provided by Donna and Jim and the rest of the pub’s management team and came away smiling.

An excellent Saturday run of seventy miles all told, with Captain Dave at the helm, visited the delightful bygones museum at Granary Crafts, in Buxhall near Stowmarket, where we were made welcome and enjoyed the attractions of the tea room.

Finally, a special thanks to Peter Haddon who, with partner Susan, worked the proverbial socks off making, erecting and subsequently dismantling all the show signs.  Over £200 was raised for Leukaemia Research.
