Technical Tip (29) Give It A Good Old Thump!

Soft-faced hammers are nowadays available made of rubber and plastic among other materials, but occasionally, something heavier is necessary and a useful mallet can easily be made from lead.
Tack one end of a strip of scrap lead flashing to a hammer handle then wrap it really tightly round until you get a mallet-head of the right size and secure it with copper roofing tacks (or clout nails as long as you keep a contact face clear)
Also useful for swatting spiders.
