Technical Tip (26) Swinging Arm Puzzle Solved

Members new to the marque are often baffled when they try to release the cotter pins to remove the rear swinging arm or to adjust side-play in it. Unlike the more familiar ones with a tapered locking face found on the pedal crank of a pushbike, AMC cotters don’t knock out with a blow from a hammer.
They are captive with a curved cutout that locks on the spindle, so after releasing the nut, a tap on the cotter is all that is necessary to release the swinging arm spindle
