East Suffolk Section

Section Notes 3rd September 2016

The section barbecue, hosted once more by Christine and |Mick in their lovely garden, was the usual resounding success. They were blessed with a warm sunny afternoon so, with Mick doing the hot job with his usual skill and some delicious desserts to follow, it really was a lively and memorable event and we’re grateful that they do it so well. It provides the opportunity for the ladies who don’t ride to get together and meet, whilst, inevitably, the menĀ  gravitate toward the workshop from time to time. Many thanks to all involved.

The following weekend, Andy and John were enjoyinga weekend, away at the Jampot Rally, the only ones from the section to attend this year, doing the journeys to Stirling and back in one. Meanwhile, Jack led a dozen of those of us left behind on a brisk run around the countryside to finish at the popular beach cafe at Sizewell for lunch. August’s activities concluded with a superb evening run, organised by Rob, to go via Easton and Brandeston to the pub at Swilland, the Moon and Mushroom, just as dusk was falling. We decided a few years ago to conclude the evening runs in August, as by September, it is becoming just too dangerous to drop off markers in the gloom to lurk at the corners of country lanes.

The next riding event is the run to the Henham Steam Fair on 18th September, thankfully back at Henham after being at the Suffolk Showground last year. At the August club meeting, it was decided to postpone the Glow-worm supper from the end of this month until November, when the Westerfield Swan will have Christmas menus. Coincidentally, a suggestion was made to look at the possibility of including some mid-week runs in the programme next summer. It may be that we could try having a midweek run later this month on the day of the cancelled supper.
