AJS & Matchless Owners Club

East Suffolk Section

Section Notes 2nd May 2017

2nd May 2017

After what we hope is a temporary move from Waldringfield whilst building work goes on at the golf club there, our meeting in April was in the grand surroundings of the Elizabethan Seckford Hall hotel in Woodbridge,. This was an emergency arrangement made by Mel whilst a longer-term meeting-venue could be found, but the latest news is that manager at the Seckfprd golf club near the hotel has agreed to accommodate us for the rest of the summer from May.
It actually turned out to be rather a strange meeting in the large panelled room with Section members scattered round in the deep club chairs, but we managed to bring everybody up to date with the programme for the summer months and confirm the meeting venue for the rest of the summer. The postponed raffle for the donated copy of the AJS history was won by little Peter, raising £19 for our charity collection. However, because there were fewer there than usual, we decided to postpone until May the discussion to form the working group that will run the Alternative Rally in October.
Easter was the start of a busy period for the Section, with Pete’s Treasure Hunt opening the programme, an evening run to the Otley White Hart a few days later and then the run to the inter-section meet ending the month. The treasure hunt is also billed as the Shakedown run, and some members apparently did find problems with their bike on the way round, so it was a slightly depleted band that finished at the Ferryboat at Felixstowe. New member, Andy Stebbings was on his 1930’s BSA and with the highest score, Richard was the winner of the event.
The evening of the run was a grey and cold one, deterring all but Mel and Albert from joining leader Rob Day. It good to get out on two wheels again and an enjoyable run, but very cold, indeed that pint at the pub felt warm as it went down!
