Section Notes 28th March 2016

28th March 2016

At the March club night, Maurice revealed the programme for the events in the coming summer months and it’s amusing to note that, despite planning to reduce the number of events after some runs were under-subscribed last year, the list has finished up as full as ever. The extras that have also been included are grouped as “also of interest”. With cold and wet weather hanging on, there’s been no riding to report this month. Just a few days after the April meeting, though,  two-wheeled activities will soon be on us with the Treasure Hunt. It will be great to get out on the road again and this run is always programmed for the start of the riding events to act as a shakedown event after the winter overhaul, with the opportunity to stop your bike without disrupting a run and quietly make adjustments or tighten up the nuts you’d overlooked without the embarrassment of “helpful” advice. This year, as joint winners of last year’s run, Dave Cook and Andy Poulson have been planning it and for the first time, it will end at the Chequers at Great Blakenham. As mentioned last month, after attendance has dwindled in the last few years, there won’t be an Inter-section meet for the eastern counties this year. Later in April, we look forward to the first evening run, which will be led by Richard Cove.

The AGM in January decided that the local St Elizabeth’s Hospice would this year be the charity the section will support. The Chairman’s run in May is the main fund raising event of the year and a collection at the film night last month raised £34, which will augment the amount we collect from the run. Another decision in January was to boost the final amount of our donation further with the proceeds of running a sweep card at monthly meetings, and Robin was the first lucky winner.
