East Suffolk Section

Section notes 16th March 2011

East Suffolk’s plans for a camping weekend and bike show in June, at the section’s Hasketon headquarters, are beginning to take shape. There will be details in the classic bike magazines and the Jampot next month. Albert, Richard and Peter have recently been measuring up the extensive area at the Turk’s Head to see what will fit in where and the pub has booked the band for the Saturday night entertainment.

In the meantime, the March club night showed the first signs of two-wheeled life after the winter months, with bikes of the marque gleaming under the floodlights in front of the pub. Arrangements were made for the works visit to the powder-coating firm at Maldon, and there was news that the section’s display at the Copdock Show in October is likely to feature the Club’s full stand and raffle bike for the first time, so as to give the Section’s usual “shop front”-style show stand a rest for this year. Otherwise there were no special business items to discuss and it was just a chance to catch up on news. A visitor came in an interesting yellow Lomax three-wheeler, but we were a bit disappointed with the sound of the exhaust when he left, the 2CV lump not at all as rorty as a Morgan’s Matchless V-twin engine.

The Treasure Hunt, early in April, is to be devised by Richard this year. This is always the first riding event and is always a useful shakedown run with the opportunity to stop to sort out any problems after the winter lay-up, without the embarrassment of “helpful” comments.  Then, with the ride later in the month to the Inter-section meet at Sible Hedingham and the start of the regular mid-week evening runs beginning a very full programme, there’s certainly plenty to look forward to. It’s been a long winter, but the bikes are fettled and ready.
