Section Notes 16th January 2013

16th January 2013

The December report closed with hopes of good weather for the Cold Turkey run on 27th. No such luck this time, alas. Rain tipping down really hard at start time led to Albert, Rob and Richard, the only riders either daft or resolute enough to turn out, going back to Grundisburgh for a welcome coffee and to empty their boots before meeting the other dozen drier and more astute members for food and a warm-through at the Turk’s Head.
January’s meeting was the section’s AGM. Only areas north of Woodbridge had thicker snow at that stage, so over 20 members present despite the dire forecast. Albert opened the proceedings with a review of the section’s growth in the last 15 years,  reporting that there are now 50 members on the roll, unimaginable when the six original members decided to start a local group. Treasurer Pete Haddon, who lives in Diss, was snowbound but reported sound finances by phone! Since there were no complaints when election time came, the committee got re-elected on the nod. Section subs are now due and Richard collected in the absence of Pete, the money man. The programme for the coming year was discussed and will be broadly the same as last year, with the addition of a couple of extra weekend runs in the autumn to replace the later evening runs. At the close of last season, it was agreed that dropping-off riders to wait in the dusk as markers at corners of unlit country lanes was potentially dangerous. Several other suggestions for the coming year will be sorted shortly and then the programme will be circulated.
Albert reported that the local Vintage Club had been invited to join us for our next meeting, the film evening. The business part of the meeting will have to start promptly at 7.30 with the films at 8pm. The committee has arranged for several extra trophies to be available in time for the Dinner on Feb 23rd. Any last minute bookings by clubnight please. The snazzy new pin badges are now available to paid-up members and were distributed to those members present, so see Albert for yours.
