AJS & Matchless Owners Club

East Suffolk Section

Section Notes 16th December 2012

Not much riding to report but many members were out foraging at the Blakenham jumble. Trouble is, Jap stuff is now as old and rusty as the rest, so finding some AMC treasure takes perseverance. Later in November, Richard and the pub lunch mob descended on the Chequers at Kettleburgh and ate well. Into December, and a lovely day meant the ride to the annual Boxford Bash classic trial was well worth it—there were ideal conditions for the entrants too but, disappointingly, only two AMC machines competing.

It was amazing that out of the winners of the Club raffle, two of the three winning tickets were sold on the section stand at the Copdock show. The winner of the AJS twin lives locally and has already indicated that he wants to join the Section. A warm welcome to another new member, Mike who drove from Bury St Edmunds for clubnight. He is re-commissioning a Model 16 and was soon enjoying discussing technical details.  The latest order of clothing with the Section badge arrived in time for clubnight, including some snazzy hi-vis vests. The meeting was the traditional December mix of quiz, nibbles and raffle. This year’s quiz, set by Albert, included some general questions along with questions on bikes and some of these led to searching distant memory, such as the shape of the windows in the TV Playschool house! As usual, the marking stage gave rise to much laughter and the result was close, but Brian just came out the winner. The buffet supper that followed was rather disappointingly ordinary, so there will have to be a bit of thought before next year’s. Mel had some more entertaining quiz sheets before the evening concluded in the usual style with the raffle.

The next riding event, the last of the year, will be the Cold Turkey, due to gather at Spencer’s at 11 on 27th December and arrive by noon at the Turk’s Head to get thawed out in front of the fire with something hot to eat. The run is always well-supported and a lot of fun, though after the early cold snap recently, we’re hoping there won’t be any problem with the weather. If they don’t see you before, the Chairman and committee send everyone best wishes and may your plugs sparkle throughout 2013
