20th Dec 2015

No riding to report this month with much dreary wet weather. There wasn’t even anybody wanting to go for our usual jaunt to watch the classic trial that the Anglia Classic Club runs in a spinney across   at   Boxford.  At   the   December   club   meeting,   Maurice   reminded   us   that nominations for the Club member of the year were required, the award to be at the AGM in January. Then the meeting followed the traditional Christmas pattern, beginning with the quiz,  set   this   year by  Richard.  This was partly   a   test   of   knowledge   of   the  marque  and motorcycling, but then he’d also included a wider range of general knowledge questions, some   of   which   led   to   agonised searching   of   distant   memory.  As   usual,   at   the   hilarious marking stage, the question-master had to withstand calls for barely acceptable answers, but stood firm and at the close, when John Purbrick was the one who emerged with the highest score, Richard presented him with the Quiz Cup. After a generous buffet supper provided by the golf club, the evening concluded in the usual style with the raffle. The next riding event and the last for 2015, will be the Cold Turkey run on December 27th,when usually, muffled riders emerge to meet up and ride around the countryside until the pub opens  so   they   can   go in   and   thaw   out, hoping   for   a   big  fire.   However,  it   has  been   an unusually mild December so far but at least it’s forecast to be dry but will be colder by then.  In   previous   years,   we’ve   had   snow   and   flooded   lanes,   but  we   hope   there   won’t   be  any problem this year.  The start is from Spencer’s in Martlesham as usual, with Albert the leader and the run is planned to arrive promptly at noon at the White Hart, Otley, for something warming to eat.  It is really a lot of fun and is generally well-supported with family and non-runners meeting us at the finish. If they don’t see you there, the chairman and committee send everyone their best wishes and hope your wheels will spin smoothly throughout 2016
