AJS & Matchless Owners Club

East Suffolk Section

History

The East Suffolk Section of the AJS & Matchless owners club was formed in 1997 by six local owners of AMC machines under the guidance of Albert Usher.

Albert had moved to Grundisburgh from his native Yorkshire. Having been very active within the Yorkshire section and there not being a section in this area he made contact with other local owners by obtaining names at the 1997 Ipswich to Felixstowe run.

The first meeting was held at the Red Lion public house at Woodbridge September 1997, present at the meeting were Albert, Robert Self, Jim Lomax, Mick Dykes, Robin Cowling and Andy Poulson. Albert became section chairman and Robert took the position of treasurer and secretary.

By 2007 the section had grown to a membership of almost 40 and to mark the 10th anniversary, we undertook the organisation of the central club’s annual Jampot Rally.  The rally was held at Wantisden Valley, near Woodbridge, on one of the very few sunny weekends of that summer.  We were fortunate in being able to organise both a Green Lane run and a Trial within the extensive rally site and with attendance at around 400 a good time was had by all.  See “December 2007” under archives, for pictures.

Over the years our club meeting place has moved twice with the need for more space and sadly to avoid pub closure.

We now meet at the Waldringfield Golf Club. Newbourne Road, Waldringfield, Woodbridge, Suffolk, IP12 4PT second Monday each month at 7:30 pm.
