Brian D’s 1966 AJS model 31 CSR

031Nothing much is known about this bike’s history but in 2011 it was purchased in Cardiff.  It did not look at all like the way it does now, however, for the previous owner, intending one day to do a complete renovation, had stripped it down completely to every last nut and bolt and stored it in boxes.  Many would advise that this is not the wisest course of action if there is to be a time lapse between strip down and rebuild, for the inevitable happened!!  Numerous bits and pieces were lost and the carefully wrapped new parts which the owner had purchased in 1997 ready for use (he assured Brian) turned out to be incorrect for this model.
Since 2011 the bike has been totally rebuilt, with much blood, sweat, tears cursing and wallet emptying.  Brian has sympathetically restored the bike to glory, making on the way some practical modifications to enable safe, regular use to be made of it and he is now a poorer but happier man.
The photo shows bike and owner receiving The Roy Stock Shield (sponsored by A1 Cars of Bury St Edmunds) for best motorcycle on display on the section’s stand at The Copdock Motor Cycle Show, 30th October 2012.
